Sleep and Anti Aging

Posted by whitney smith Sunday, September 19, 2010

When you sleep your body rebuilds, repairs and regenerates itself. Not only your body but your skin also repairs, regenerates itself when you are sleeping. When your body lacks sleep your body cannot rebuild and regenerate itself as a result different kinds of problem arises which includes premature aging, high blood pressure and others.

A chemical called melatonin is produced by your brain as you approach bedtime. Melatonin is also known as anti-aging hormone. When, you are in the phase of deep sleep your brain activates growth hormone it helps to regenerate and repairs the damage cells.

Proper sleep for anti-aging

Inadequate sleep causes stress. Stress causes your skin to wrinkle, loose its collagen and also produces Cortisol (a stress hormone). So you need to have adequate and proper sleep to reduce stress.

Sleep is one of the most effective anti aging tool. You need to have adequate sleep to reduce the signs of aging on your skin. Most adults require eight hours of sleep daily but due to busy lifestyles many people are only getting five to six hours of sleep. So, my suggestion to them is try to sleep at least 7 hours as it will be beneficial for your skin and health.
