Wine is one of the oldest alcoholic beverages on the planet. Researchers claim that a glass of red wine may provide you numerous health benefits. At the same time it is also true that heavy drinking of any alcoholic beverage will provide you a lot of health troubles instead of benefits.
It does not mean that drinking wine will cure all your health problems but it can surely give you some widely agreed health benefits. you should also know that it isn’t the alcohol present in red wine that provides you health benefits it’s the antioxidants present in red wine that provides you health benefits. Red wine has polyphenols, anthrocyanidins and resveratrol present in it which is beneficial for your health.

Red Wine

Here I've listed some health benefits of red wine;

Heart disease:
The heart protective effect of red wine is one of most popular and mainly studied benefit of red wine. According to researchers if red wine is consumed moderately on a regular basis then it may prevent you from coronary heart disease. According to scientist red wine reduces production of low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and boosts high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol; as a result the risk of coronary heart disease is reduced.

Benefits of Polyphenols:
Resveratrol (a type of polyphenol) present in red wine is beneficial for you as well. Polyphenols are those chemical compounds that are found in the skin of grapes and other plants. These compounds act as antioxidants and it lowers the cholesterol level as well as blood pressure. This compound also stimulates the immunity system and lessens the risk of cancer as well.

Atherosclerosis:
Red wine may prevent the initiation and progression of atherosclerosis (hardening or "furring" of the arteries). When our blood vessels lose its ability to relax then Atherosclerosis starts.
Both the alcohol and polyphenols in the red wine appear to favorably maintain healthy blood vessels by promoting the formation of nitric oxide (NO), the key chemical relaxing factor that plays an important role in the regulation of vascular tone.

Anti-bacterial activity:
Red wine has anti bacterial property. In a research it was proved that those who drank 1-2 glasses of red wine a day had 7-18% fewer presence of bacteria called Helicobacter pylori(which cause ulcer infection) in comparison to non drinkers. Similarly those who drank 3 glass of red wine a day had 1/3 fewer bacteria in comparison to non drinkers.

Hypertension:
Intake of excessive alcohol is generally considered as a risk factor for hypertension. However according to scientists if red wine is consumed moderately i.e. (250 ml or 2 glasses per day with meal) then it will have favorable effect on blood pressure and hypertension.

Besides the sweet benefits of red wine we should not forget the bitter fact about red wine too i.e. it is a kind of alcohol. Too much of the consumption of red wine harms your health instead of providing benefits. Too much of consumption of alcohol results high blood pressure and hypertension. It is proven by researches that consuming one or two glass of red wine is beneficial but at the same time excessive intake of red wine is injurious to your health.
